What you get

A wall scanner for anyone about to hang a shelf, a TV bracket or a heavy mirror. Slide it across the surface and it signals wooden studs, metal profiles, pipes and live cables behind plaster or drywall. Metal is detected up to about 100 mm deep, live AC wiring up to about 50 mm, wooden studs up to about 38 mm. The display shows signal strength and the centre of the object, and a beep gets faster as you approach it. Calibration is automatic: hold it on the wall and press the button. A detector reduces the risk; it does not replace care near sockets and switches. Runs on one 9 V battery, included.
